Spring Herding Clinic

A weekend clinic for Novice thru Advanced teams.

baileyherding.w.jpg Kick off the season with a fun and educational two day clinic with Kathy! This clinic is geared for dogs who have at least a basic start. If you’re eager to continued your herding education with positive and effective methods, this clinic is for you!

Event Summary: Fully develop your dogs herding instinct by shaping their natural moves into effective stock handling methods. Continue to learn how to be a more effective handler by using the stock and your relative position to communicate desired moves to your dog. Kathy’s teaching methods focus on keeping your dog in a calm, focused, eager-to-learn state of mind and nurturing a solid and mutually respectful partnership between you and your dog (without chasing off, yelling, punishing etc).

The Dancing Hearts farm is beautiful, the sheep are wonderful teachers and the learning is fun! Each team will have several lessons over the weekend, and there will be many learning opportunities with active discussions, demonstrations and watching others work. The clinic is limited to a very small group, so you will have plenty of personal attention.

Who should attend: Novice thru Advanced dogs and handlers who are eager to continue their herding education, advance their skills and/or prepare for the upcoming trial season. (If you are new to herding, check out the Sheep Herding 101 Clinic )

You may work on developing foundation skills, gathering, lifting with or without a spotter, driving, shedding, penning, whistling – whatever your level or current challenge! We will be working in a three acre field, with an adjacent smaller pen for the very novice dogs. There will be quiet school sheep as well as cheviot ewes and yearlings available for the weekend lessons.

Facilitated by Kathy Kawalec, Herding Coach and Mentor
