Novice Sheep Dog Training Workshop
Learn, Practice and Watch with the Teaching Power of Video Recording!
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to add to your dog's herding skill expertise, and for you to hone up your handling skills.
Kathy Kawalec is a coach who understands both dogs and people and brings them together into a working partnership in the context of mindful sheep handling. Using Kathy's calm, positive methods to teach dogs and handlers is effective, fun and gets you ready for the winners circle!
Having many years of experience working with all herding breeds, Kathy can help you and your dog understand one another, and team up with simple and effective training methods. Using body language, modulated voice and a clicker to help handlers look for the good moves their dog is making eliminates the need for harsh corrections, and opens the door for connected partnership.
Kathy has successfully trialed and won in all venues with her border collies, and has coached handlers and dogs of many herding breeds to achieve wins, titles and honors in all venues. She is a perpetual student of sheep, dogs, people, communication and trialing - studying with the top trainers, coaches and handlers in the national and international sheepdog world, as well as leaders in related fields.
Each day will start with each team having a personalized training lesson that will be video taped on Kathy's HD camera, while the other students watch and learn. Midday will bring lunch while watching the highlights of each lesson, discussing the important points. The afternoons will repeat the round of individual lessons, with each team utilizing the morning's teaching and the video discussion to practice what was learned, further assimilating the lessons.
Teams at any level may participate in the clinic. Working areas are a round pen, moderately sized paddock and a 3 acre field, with a sheep selection from quiet school sheep, up to quick and challenging cheviots.
This clinic will be a full weekend of learning, practice and fun!
