#4 in a Series: Personal Stories of Transformation. Sometimes we learn so much from one another's stories, like my "Confessions of a Professional Dog Trainer" series. (I will be writing a couple more of those too, so keep a watch) These stories of life changing transformation are powerful for us and our dogs...and I am always grateful when someone is willing to open up and share their story with others, aren't you?

I invited some of my clients and students to share their stories...of how their training, performance, relationship, or other important aspects of their lives with their dogs were changed from using the principles and methods that I taught them. These are wonderful stories...some simple and sweet...some complex and filled with struggle...ALL of them demonstrate life changing transformation.

Maya-at-PenMaya and Kathy penning sheep at a competitionSpring is a busy time of year for me...filled with lots of eager herding enthusiasts getting ready to compete, or getting started on a new sheep herding adventure. This year, I am on the road the last of April through mid June, teaching workshops, clinics and privates...as well as competing in several competitions with my dogs. Lots of fun, lots of miles!

I'll be writing about some of our adventures, but in the meantime, I thought this was a perfect time to feature a few guest writers on my blog.

Or: How I (almost) Wrecked My Dogs...

There's one thing that I've learned from all of my years of living with and training dogs that stands head and shoulders above the rest. If you don't have a good sense of humor, you might as well just throw in the towel and live a boring and sterile dogless life that features light carpeting, upholstered furniture, and a nice car that you are not embarrassed to have your mother or your boss ride in.

No, that's not for me. Laughing at myself and my ineptness as a dog trainer - then sharing that with the world - way more fun. Who doesn't need a little humility to keep things in balance?

Earlier this month, I put out a call for help, asking folks to take a short survey. I wanted to know your top struggles and the elements of dog training you found most important so that I could write a free ebook that would address those very things!

Over 150 people took time to complete the survey as a service to our dogs...wow...thank you all so much!

It was simply the Best Day Ever!

What could be more perfect:

• A group of dedicated herding enthusiasts

You've likely thought that your dog had her or his 'own agenda' at least once, right? Let's think about when that might have happened:
